Engineering phase: modelling of the energy demand
The Team cooperated with the technical committee of Grahn to identify a-priori suitable models for the consumption profiles. The CDS had at the moment an elementary school and a kindergarten. The latter serves as well as evening reunion centre for young local entrepreneurs.
The models have been fit to the expected conditions of occupancy of the buildings, in terms of schedule, number of occupants, power requirements, comfort etc.
On top of the day-to-day appliances, the team took into acount AC for the classrooms and for the computer rooms, as well as night safety systems.
Modelling of the microgrid
The CDS electricity generation needs have been investigated using two softwares in parallel: Homer Energy and SAM (System Advisory Model, @NREL). Results have been benchmarked and
The goal was to model an off-grid system integrating photovoltaic, batteries, a diesel genset and a microgrid control system, to manage power flows in the grid.
The sizing of the microgrid allowed the team to propose a reliable system to the technical committee of Grahn, to estimate the costs of the installation and expected financial performance, in terms of levelized cost of electricity LCOE
